Great Lakes to the Caribbean

As much as I love cruising the Great Lakes and fully believe you couldn't see it all in a lifetime, my mind still wanders to Caribbean in the middle of winter. And so, I just finished post an overview of the routes from the Great Lakes to the Caribbean on my blog.

Has anyone taken any of these routes? I'd like to hear your thoughts and opinions if you have.

Re: Great Lakes to the Caribbean

Hannabel,

I believe the "Lake Champlain shortcut" includes transit of the Chambly Canal, which means a maximum draft of 6.5 feet and no more than 30-foot overhead clearance. Someone from CF took that route last fall after the Erie Barge Canal was shut down courtesy of hurricane Irene.

You may have forgotten to set up the link to enlarge the image for Route 1.

Great blog post. Thanks!

I have done them all except the Champlain cut off. They are all great!
