Exumas Charter Companies

Does anyone have experience bareboat chartering a sailing cat out of Nassau? It seems like both Moorings and DYC both have highly variable reviews; while this seems typical for DYC locations, the other Moorings locations I have researched seem to have consistently positive reviews. Is this because it's harder for companies to service their fleets in the Exumas? Would renting a relatively newer charter be a safer bet? I'm debating whether I should take a chance or wait until I buy my own cat.

Re: Exumas Charter Companies

SaltyDog90 I'm in the same boat as you so giving this post a bump. I'm looking to bareboat charter in the Exumas in 2025 but I'm not keen on The Moorings or DYC. I've managed to find small local charter companies in the BVI, Abacos and Croatia that have offered excellent levels of service at prices usually below the Moorings with great quality boats.

Does anybody have any recommendations on an Exuma bareboat charter company that is not the Moorings or Dream Yacht?

Re: Exumas Charter Companies

Regarding Exumas chartering, I don't think there are any other options than Dream and Moorings. I've been down there half a dozen times going back to before the pandemic, and at least from New Providence Island (Nassau), that's it. Both companies operate out of Palm Cay Marina on the SE side of the island, closest to the Exumas chain. That base is crammed and the crossing to the chain is like 35 miles, so it's a niche market compared to the BVI. There's isn't much support out there and lots of skinny water and coral heads at places so they have to make their money on catamarans, which cuts the potential customer base further.

we have gone with moorings from nassau palm caye and something they don't advertise but I would recommend is doing a single direction 1-week charter (eg to staniel cay, Georgetown etc)
