Dry Tortugas anchorage

Thinking of heading to Dry Tortugas for a few days and just wanted to get y’all’s opinion of the anchorage there by the fort. Doesn’t look like a whole lot of protection. Just curious how bumpy it gets or if there is much surge ( we hate rolling ) We are on a 50’ mono and do have a couple of Magma stabilizers that help a lot. Watched some YouTube vids and talked to a few friends who have been there just not sure of what to expect. It’s a long way and not sure if it’s worth the trip if the anchorage uncomfortable. Anyway as always thanks in advance for any feedback.

Re: Dry Tortugas anchorage

It is definitely worth the trip. There are several anchorages there. In fact, you can anchor anywhere within a 1 mile radius from Fort Jefferson. When we were there last March, most recreational boats were anchored on the SE side of the fort. We had excellent protection. A bunch of commercial fishing boats were anchored on the West side of the fort. The winds were from NE.
