Does Anyone Check-in at Walkers Cay ?

I am about to cross over from Lake Worth and thought of checking in at Walkers Cay in order to island hop down to Marsh Harbor.
Thanks in advance for your opinion!

Walkers is off again on again kinda spot, and a bitch to get into. If it were me I would wait, and clear at Spanish. One customs agent, very nice, and a breeze to get in and out!!

Thank you, I have a dog with me and want to make an early land fall without visiting West End. I may have to trudge on to Spanish

Stop at Great Sale Cay, it's uninhabited, let the dog do its thing and then continue on your way.

I have checked in at Walkers (with a dog) four times. Each time was a professional and pleasant experience. The channel is tricky and a bit shoaled so make sure the visability is good. Good luck and enjoy the abacos!

The marina future is still up in the air and not open, but customs and immigrations is still operating.

Another option, that I did on my last cruise is to do a day crossing to West End and then a day up to the Grand Cays or Walker's and work your way south. That avoids having to sail through the night or anchor out in the open on the banks.

I know many like to wait to clear in at Spanish or Green Turtle. I much prefer checking in at W.E. or Walker's so that I can legally enjoy all the northern Abacos have to offer.

Some photos of the northern Abacos and a few anchorages maps on my webpage (still in progress):

Have a great cruise.

- yeah and just noticed this is a very old thread recently brought back.

I agree and it has always been a good chance to top off fuel and clear in then hunt/spearfish, and explore all the way from there to Marsh Harbor

Grand Cay is a bit shallow but very protected once you get in. My boat draws five feet and I had to wait until high tide to get in.

I always taken my time in the outer Abacos and cleared in at Green Turtle Cay. I think it is legal as long as you don't go ashore. I've always sensed the Bahamians are pretty relaxed about the clearing in process.

our jeanneau ds40 actually drafts 5' and we went in at absolutely low tide and did not touch until inside and tried to get around another boat - but got off quickly - just need to take your time and read the water well - but it sure is easier and less stressful if the tide is up
