Cruising plans for upcoming season?

We are currently tied up in Charleston and are making plans to travel south in a few more weeks. For you cruisers who typically go to the Caribbean or The Bahamas, what are your plans for the upcoming post-hurricane season?

Right now, we are evaluating The Bahamas as a destination, but sailing is often an uncertain business, and these are uncertain times to boot.

I’m just interested in what other cruisers are thinking about that region of the world in the coming days.

Re: Cruising plans for upcoming season?

My boat's on the hard in N. Florida right now, but I'm planning on splashing in February when I finish up my current contract. Then the plan is to spend the rest of the winter and spring in Bahamas and potentially over to Turks & Caicos as well.

At the moment it looks like testing is required for inter-island travel in the Bahamas, but I'm hoping things may have quieted down by the time I get over there.

Just in the Bahamas and they have it fairly easy to get in and out. Just need to time the Testing and crossing correctly.

Being vaccinated helps.

We’re just waiting until next year, to see if the craziness starts to wain.

Re: Cruising plans for upcoming season?

Our upcoming season doesn't come up intil May, 2022. By then it will have been 2 1/2 years since I've been to my boat.

My "cruising plans" consist of simply getting to the boat, fixing the inevitable damage that has occurred after such a long stay on the hard in Newfoundland, and maybe... maybe getting it launched.

We sure hope for the best Mike, that brief talk about selling her was distressing!

We talked about selling ours, but we decided, that as long as we still had the boat, the dream of going cruising, at least one more time, is still alive!

It’s important to do things in the correct order!

In all seriousness we are headed to the Bahamas this winter.

Didn’t go last year and spent the winter on the west coast of fl instead with all the craziness going on. In hindsight that was a mistake.

Re: Cruising plans for upcoming season?

I think next year will be gang busters from April may onwards lots of people inching to get back to their boats.
