Crossing Bay of Fundy

We will be crossing the bay of Fundy from somewhere in the Shelborne/Yarmouth area, to Bar Harbor or perhaps Machias/ Cutler. It all depends on the sea conditions, which leads to my question.

I'm looking for local knowledge about wind speed, direction, and other conditions that make for a calm crossing, and what to avoid. Thanks.

I grew up on the Bay of Fundy and did a lot of sailing around Grand Manan Island, Blacks Harbour, East Port, Campabello, Saint Andrews and general Passamaquoddy bay. All areas are great for sailing (watch for the ledges around Grand Manan). It can get a little choppy through Grand Manan channel if the tide and wind are opposing each other... Other than that you can expect SW winds 10-15kts and Bar Harbour is a nice little town to spend a couple of days.

We crossed a couple of days ago and it was like glass the whole way. I'm guessing it's not like that every day, and we sure had our rough days elsewhere around Nova Scotia, but the crossing was one of the best days of our trip.

Glad to hear your sail was smooth. If you have time the Passamaquoddy is a beautiful sail. Just time the tides right otherwise 4-5kts of current will be working against you. Cheers
