Costa Rica destinations

I'm thinking on going to Costa Rica. If you have been there before, I'd appreciate hearing some advice on the best places to visit. I'd also like to go surfing, any ideas on the best beaches to catch some waves?

Are you sailing there?
Bahia St Elena on the north coast is a great, empty bay in the jungle. In the summer there is a lot of south swell. Can make the anchorages along the west coast rolly, but lots of surf. Get the online Sarana Guide to read up on the anchorages and surf spots near by.

I have been playing CR since 2000, no idea how many times I've visited. The past three years running my wife and have averaged 8 weeks/year there. Just got back 2 weeks ago from a 4 week overland trip in our Land Cruiser Belize City to San Jose. Obviously we love central america and would be happy to advise.
