Coolest Florida summer weather?
We had not planned to summer in Florida, but things have changed. We are staying on the boat this summer.
We are trying to figure out where we will be the most comfortable. We will be staying in a marina on month to month basis, mostly to run the AC.
We are in Stock Island Marina in Key West. It is very nice here. Cat 5 hurricane rating, and not too hot, but with the humidity it's not comfortable. We are told it will get warmer for July and August.
Is there any place in Florida that would be better?

Jacksonville, maybe. Ortega Landing and other nearby marinas are likely decent for hurricane season. Ortega Landing itself is a really nice place (we spent last winter there).

Re: Coolest Florida summer weather?
The short answer is no...........
It's hot and humid everywhere. You might be able to find a slip that is open to the sea breeze, but that won't be a good hurricane spot. Be aware that August and Sept are our busiest hurricane months. Have a good plan.
Here on the west coast we just tied our record high temp a few days ago, and we are not even into August yet...........

That is where it is most comfortable, in the marina with the AC. As I write this it is 90 degrees in Key West and in Jacksonville where I am it is .................................. 90 degrees.

Re: Coolest Florida summer weather?
What entity classified Stock Island a Cat 5 marina? Guess hurricane Irma didn’t get that memo.
In my opinion, KW is probably the coolest place in Florida as the 80deg water temp tends to moderate the 90+degree air temp. However, it’s more about humidity than temp and KW wins that prize

Re: Coolest Florida summer weather?
key west is usually cooler than where i am in NC in the summer. you won't find many places cooler in FL. It's all one hot, sticky place in the summer.

I've always heard that it is pretty miserable everywhere on the east side of the US unless you get up north of NY.

Re: Coolest Florida summer weather?
I’m the summer the prevalent winds are from the East, making SE Florida at the coast line a bearable destination. Unfortunately the west coast will be hotter as the wind will warm up as it travels across the state. The keys should have uninterrupted wind from any landmass so in theory cooler

Re: Coolest Florida summer weather?
South Florida with a sea breeze IS the coolest place in Florida in the summer. It doesn’t get cooler as you go north in the summer. It gets hotter.
Jacksonville goes over 100 degrees all the time. Miami? Never.
Plus the air is more still up in Jacksonville.
So, you’re already in the cooler part of Florida in the summer.

Oops, I talked with desk and the bay is a designated as a safe harbor, and the marina is rated for category 4 hurricane. The floating docks are designed to take a 12 ft surge.
No boats were lost in Irma but it was not a direct hit.

Ah. Yep. I didn't know JAX gets that hot in Summer, but when we lived between Miami and FLL it was usually pleasant all Summer long. Thunderstorm at 2 pm every day, lower humidity after that.

Re: Coolest Florida summer weather?
The keys are the coolest place in summer. Trade off is hurricanes, but anywhere in fl. you can get hit, but not all are deadly, Ive ridden out three on a boat.

Re: Coolest Florida summer weather?
I spent a couple of summers in Key West. I normally live in the Florida Panhandle.
And I can assure you that it is hot as Hades in Key West in the summer. It is consistently a few degrees hotter there. Also, it is one of the highest hit areas in Florida for hurricanes.
Most people with other options leave Key West in the summer.
There are cooler places to be, though most of Florida is still quite hot. Just not SE Florida hot.

No. Breeze is the key as far as we're concerned; it's hot & muggy everywhere.
The east coast (and Keys) are quite a bit breezier than the Gulf side, so I'm not sure you could do any better. Rodney Dangerfield compared Florida to a "Sauna, with gnats". Pretty much had it right!
