Cheap Boat Storage in the Bahamas (One Month)

Hey all!!

We are planning to leave Miami for the Bahamas next week, cross to the Abacos and leave our boat for a month while we fly to that forbidden island south of florida....

We are considering leaving the boat at anchor for the 4 weeks in Marsh Harbour, but I really want to make sure she's safe. Like many, we're on a budget and soI would love any recommendations regarding how we might do this (anchoring), if we should, or what other options we might have if we had about $350 to pay for a mooring or a dock.

For what it's worth, I found that the holding in Marsh Harbor was probably the best I saw anywhere in the Bahamas. If you could find an area large enough to swing to 7:1 scope and a big heavy anchor, you would be absolutely fine there (barring hurricane force winds).

No cheap dockage in the Abacos. Pick up a mooring in Hope Town Harbour, or in Man of War and take the Ferry back to Marsh. Or anchor in Marsh Harbour, but I prefer the mooring as you can have the mooring provider keep an eye on the boat. You can negotiate on the moorings in Hope Town, I got one last summer for $150 a month with a daily boat check. Treasure Cay has moorings in their protected harbour for $120 a month, but I don't know if they will check the boat.

I recently talked to some folks staying at the Leeward yacht club on G.T. who reported monthly fees were about $400. Moorings at either Hope Town or Man-o-War are other good options. G.T. has ferry service to the Treasure Cay airport. Hope Town and Man-O-War have ferry service to Marsh Harbour.

Another place I'd check monthly dock rates at is the Treasure Cay marina and resort.
