Charleston to Augusta in September

I am headed from Charleston to Augusta in September. I may go outside down to the lower end of Hilton Head, mainly because I don't do outside much, so it'd be a nice change. If weather prompts me to do the inside, I'm pretty familiar with that as well. Of course it'd be a shame to miss eating at Plums in Beaufort. Choices, choices. Anyway I go, I'm not concerned about Charleston to Savannah.

I'm mainly interested on any reports of the Savannah river. I already know the lock has re-opened (and requires 24 hour notice). Anyone know of a particularly good place to anchor about half way up the Savannah? If not, I see some old oxbows on the charts and will probably just poke in one of them. Since there isn't any commercial traffic up there, I'm not too worried, but I'd sleep better if there is a little hole somewhere. Also, any knowledge of the depths or shoaling?
