Canary Islands--Best place to live aboard for 2 months

I have a 16m sloop and am looking for a nice marina and adjacent city/town in the Canaries to settle in for a couple of months in the fall of 2020. All advice welcomed! Not settled yet on exact months but could be either Nov/Dec or Dec/Jan. Then Caribbean bound. I know Canary Islands are busy in the fall and am aware of ARC timing.

Gran Canaria...move to smaller marina during the arc madness.

La Gomera is a personal favourite.

As said above. Most people who stay in the area end up in La Gomera.
Nice marina in centre of town, and a beautiful island.

Maybe, but not the main marina in Las Palmas (Las Palmas is the main town in Gran Canaria).

According to sources in place, the Las Palmas Gran Canaria city marina will soon become the first Spanish marina to BAN live aboards.

You will find nice friendly places in the south of the same island - Pasito Blanco, Anfi del Mar, Mogan, to name a few.

Cheers,

Re: Canary Islands--Best place to live aboard for 2 months

By all means end your stay in the Canaries at La Gomera. But you really should take the time to cruise the Canaries and see the many faces of the place. From the desert islands to the east, the volcanic park, the big cities of Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and the multitude of anchorages and marinas there is just so much to see. La Gomera is lush, and the town is small and very comfortable, so a great place to relax before jumping off but you really should cruise the islands first. If you need any boat parts then La Palmas is the place, but only after the ARC has left, or a long time before then. Otherwise you won't be able to get into the marina, and the anchorage will be packed like sardines.

Another recommendation: if you are leaving from Europe or the Med then head out to Madeira before the Canaries. Stop first at Porto Santos, then to the main island. It is a bit difficult because there are few marinas so definitely make reservations. There are no anchorages that are protected all-round so if anchoring (on the south side) then keep a weather eye and be ready to leave on short notice. There is a really nice marina on the east end at Quinta do Lorde, but a long bus ride to town and the area is much more overcast and damp than Funchal, which is almost always sunny and dry.. There are boatyards at Porto Santo and Conical (among others); I had Carina hauled at Conical for a DIY paint job. It was a large boatyard for fishing boats, reasonable prices and very professional service. Madeira itself is fascinating - stay in Funchal if you can but if not don't miss the place.

PASITO BLANCO

Placido would be proud, though. Especially on Domingo.

Nice golf course there with fabulous ocean views. Also an almost private and very intimate mini beach to swim in the morning. Good choice if you do not care for big towns and related city infrastructure.

Re: Canary Islands--Best place to live aboard for 2 months

Arrecife in Lanzarote is nice, Santa Cruz de Tenerife offers a real Town and chandleries within walking distance, La Gomera is nice but calm and no sailing infrastructure. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is too much ARC but it offers it all. But to get to the nice part of the town, you need a ride. La Palma is beautiful but limited offers for sailors. If you prefer a Town it’s only Santa Cruz or Las Palmas. Countryside and calm is La Palma, Arrecife and La Gomera. For the records: El Hierro is spectacular but zero infrastructure for sailors and a car is required as everything is very remote. Enjoy
