BVI to USVI to SVI to PR Intinerary Advice

Hi Everyone,

Chartering a sail boat one way from BVI to USVI to SVI to PR this September.

We'll have 8 nights. Starting from Road Town. Have sailed the BVIs many times so we probably won't spend much time there.

Would appreciate any and all input for an itinerary and a list of the "must sees and dos".

Our group likes to swim, snorkel, explore, eat out 2 or 3 nights, etc.

Mahalo,
KokomoJoe

I really liked Culebrita, east of Culebra - The big bay on the north.

Only 8 days? Find a spot you like, and enjoy it.

BVI to USVI to SVI to PR Intinerary Advice

Leinster on the east edge of St John has good snorkeling on the back side of Waterlemon Cay. All the beaches on the north side of St John are very nice. Caneel Bay provides access to the Caneel Resort. Excellent food but bring $$$$. If you stay closer to the east end of Caneel towards Lind Pt you can dinghy into Cruz Bay. Many places to shop and eat ashore there.

There is very good snorkeling on Buck Island just south of St Thomas. Druif Bay on the west side of Water Island, just south St Thomas and a few miles west of Buck, has a beautiful beach and a couple of small beachside eateries.

I second that Tortuga bay on Culebrita is a beautiful place to spend time. Nice beach and good snorkeling.

The SW side of Luis Pena, just west of Culebra is a great day stop. You can motor 2 miles east and grab a mooring or anchor near the town of Dewey and dinghy ashore to eat.

With such a short window I would skip Vieques.

Have fun.

Re: BVI to USVI to SVI to PR Intinerary Advice

I somewhat agree with bbowers...that is a lot of area to cover in 8 days and barely long enough in any one place to fully appreciate what the area has to offer. STT has a few isolated areas that are nice, but are becoming more crowded...Christmas Cove, Buck Island, etc. but Brewers Bay (next to airport) is a great staging anchorage for the run to Culebra. I would focus my time around St. John and Culebra. We've spent a lot of time in all of the areas you mention, and still enjoy these two places the most. If you need to make PR the final resting place, spend it around the islands NE of Fajardo: Cayo Icacos or Isla Palominos.

Have fun on the trip!

Wow, only 8 days? We're leaving in a week for 12 days in the BVI alone and that still won't be enough!

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. We were able to add another day to the charter. Its not much but any extra day is a bonus

Which cruising guide do you suggest of the Spanish Virgins?

Also looking for a 7 day Spanish Virgin itinerary that I can cherry pick but I cannot find one online. If you know of one, please let me know.

Don Street and Stephen Pavlidis both produce good guidebooks to the area.

We used an older version of S. Pavlidis guide...but was still good for basic reference.
