Re: Best living & sailing on U.S. East Coast?

You're mobile. If you like the fifth wheel why not do both. You are highly employable, why not Maine or the N.E. In the summer and somewhere South in the winter.

So I know it's bad form to necro a thread generally speaking, but I have to admit, I enjoyed reading the thread, as someone who lives and works in the Western MD Chesapeake area.. Both the older and newer information..

Re: Best living & sailing on U.S. East Coast?

Hello bob and Sharon
I just retired this year and can't wait to get back to the pnw . I have been sailing 30 years in washington st , sf bay and so cal and lived aboard three times .i to was thinking about the east coast mostly because California and washington are getting so up-tight about liveaboards . My god $300 a month on top of your slip rent for liveaboard fee. But what i don't like about the east coast is the hurricane season ,i have read about it and the smart folks haul out when a storm is on its way if your not close to a yard that has a travel lift your going to have to find a hole with other cruisers and that sounds dicey. What was your experience finding a marina on the Puget sound that allowed liveaboards.

I disagree with most of these posts. You just have to get acclimated!! I live in northeast Florida on the coast. Winters are getting more bearable each year, No freeze at all last year! In the Summer, It's a Balmy 100 degrees with 90+% Humidity. Marinas are inthe $16-$18/ft. a month for live-abords if you can find one. St Augustine probably has the greatest sellection. Just stay by the water, keep at least partially submerged / Intoxicated and you'll be fine!
