Explorer charts for navigation and guide info. Steve Pavlidis guides for more details, sailing directions and local history/attractions.

Re: Best cruising Guide for Bahamas
explorer charts are not actually what most would consider a 'cruising guide' but they are absolutely indispensible. don't even think of going to the bahamas without them. they also contain a lot of 'cruising guide' type information so if you're on a tight budget they're all you really need....

I have charts up the wazoo , including explorer charts. I was looking more for " cruising guides" for info on places of interest , anchorages , etc . Thanks in advance.

Spend some time reading your Explorer charts, they have that and more.

Re: Best Cruising Guide for Bahamas
Steve Dodge's guide to the Abacos is good. And of course Pavlidis, as was already recommended.

Re: Best Cruising Guide for Bahamas
I have the NV chart kits which I purchased down island. Not sure how they compare to other chart kits. But I found them to be great.
3 kits cover the entire region, and most important for guidance each has a "Harbour and Anchorage Pilot" booklet with excellent anchorage and harbor guidance routes/waypoints etc.
I also have Doziers Bahamas Guide 2010 which has lots of general info but no piloting - no routes into harbours/anchorages. So is completely useless I would recommend not buying this one.
I returned to Nassau last week with new Raymarine E120 - the included charts do not have as complete detail as the paper charts - so often returned to paper. (Need to upgrade electronic charts - bastards)

I have Pavlidis guide to the Turks and Caicos, which is absolutely excellent - saved my bottom many times. If he has a Bahamas guide would recommend checking.

Re: Best Cruising Guide for Bahamas
In addition to Pavlidis and Explorer charts also get a copy of Van Sant's "A Gentleman's Guide to Passages South". It has good information about navigating through the Bahamas and T&C.

Re: Best Cruising Guide for Bahamas
Waterway Guide purchased the former Mathew Wilson's Bahamas Guide and converted it to Waterway Guide format. My wife Susan has done an excellent job of updating and reorganizing both the 2011 and 2012 Editions. Have a look and you will find it a great resource. Chuck
