Beaufort NC anchorages - Taylor Creek?

We're considering stopping in Beaufort in early November, and looking for first-hand observations from anyone who's anchored in Taylor Creek (near town docks) in the last year or two.

I assume there's plenty of room now that the city has removed the illegal moorings and derelict boats? How much of a challenge is the current? Bahamian moor still needed now that the area has opened up?

Or if anchoring here is less-than-ideal, any recommendations for best place to grab a transient slip?

Much Thanks!

Re: Beaufort NC anchorages - Taylor Creek?

We just anchored there Monday and left Tuesday. There was quite a lot of room. The guy beside us had 75 feet out, and we did as well. Several had been there for a few days with no problems with current.
We got there about 2 hours before low tide. Anchor set quick and hard.(spade anchor 1 size up for our boat) when the tide turned, I reset to be sure(backed down on it), as we were heading into town for few hours. The anchor turned, then wouldnt reset. Upon pulling up, it was a huge ball of thick sticky mud. After cleaning it off, it set just as quick and hard as always.
It sets deep, and current isn't bad so I wouldnt have a problem setting and leaving it. Which is what we did at that point. But next time I would make sure it's set for wind direction, not current.
It is a nice location to be able to dingy into town from. We enjoyed our day there.
