If your
draft will allow you to cross the banks, I'd hit
Bimini from
Nassau, then cross to Miami... NBD if you're in a powerboat, but a sailboat
Bimini to Miami is a bit of a crab. I like to check
NDBC for local conditions,
NOAA Miami for forecasts, and
NDBC forcast for the Western edge of the
Gulf Stream. Take all the above into account to plan your crossing. Figure your set & drift... I prefer to run South a bit on the East side if I can find a good counter
current. The
trade winds usually are in your favor crossing from the
Bahamas; both in going south and west.
