Re: Bahamas to Brunswick Ga

It's a little over 430 miles, as the crow flies. I've done it a number of times from the Abacos to Jacksonville, FL, but never straight through. I always cross to Ft. Pierce for a rest, then move on. Never had the energy or enough crew for a direct trip straight through. That's too much like work.

Re: Bahamas to Brunswick Ga

I get 360 nm as the crow flies from Man O'War Cay to Brunswick. So if you do 6 kts that's 60 hours non-stop. At 5 kts you are looking at 72 hours non-stop.

"A smaller single engine catamaran" could be a power-cat or a sailing catamaran? But anyway it is simply a matter of whether you can stay out there and out of any bad weather for 3 days straight (+/-).

Re: Bahamas to Brunswick Ga

It all depends on the weather and how many folks you have on the boat that can take turns at the helm. We have run 36 hours from Walker Cay to the St. Lucie inlet in good weather with a nice push most of the way from the gulf stream. On the flip side, you can spend a week in Walkers waiting for weather that you even want to consider entering the stream in...

We left Green Turtle around 6 a.m. and arrived in Brunswick around noon two days later. We planned on staying at Great Sale for the night but there was a front approaching Brunswick so we kept on going and had a nice south wind most of the way. We left the banks at White Sands and got a nice push from the Gulf Stream. Watch out for Debby.

Re: Bahamas to Brunswick Ga

We left Spanish Wells, Eleuthera on Friday at noon, and just pulled into Fernandina Beach, FL -- a 72 hour run, helped by some aggressive use of the motor to beat Tropical Storm Debby, and a 3.5 knot push from the Gulf Stream from Jupiter to Cape Canaveral ...

BTW, Fernandina Beach is a terrific stopover point for boats headed north or south ...
