Aruba

I'm thinking of sailing from the Bahamas to Aruba in Feb-March 2017, and storing my 36' sailboat in Aruba for the 2017 hurricane season. Does anyone have any advice on routes to take or places to store boats in Aruba?

Re: Aruba

Why are you choosing Aruba? A better choice might be Curacao, much better yacht services and a nicer environment for yachting. Aruba is sort of a cheezie island in my opinion, cruise ships and Gucci stores.

Re: Aruba

Thinking of something like this myself or on to Bocas del Toro. Probably drier storage in the ABCs?

Re: Aruba

As Robert said Curacao has much better storage options. Check Curcao Marine Curacao Marine – Ship Yard on Curacao .
If you can make Bonaire on your passage, its a great place to enjoy the diving. Then a short hop downwind to Curacao.

Re: Aruba

Thanks for the suggestion Paul. I checked out Curaçao Marine both on Active Captain and on Google Maps. Both had some very negative reviews. The consensus was an emphatic "do not do business with these guys".
So I guess I'm back to my Aruba plan unless anybody has a better suggestion.

Lots of people have stored their boat at CMS. Me included. I don't doubt their are negative reviews of various trades people, but the basic haul and storage was fine. It has an advantage over places like Trinidad or Grenada that the humidity is low and the amount of lightening is much less.

How many storage places have you found in Aruba?

Ever lookup the reviews of your favorite restaurant? Reviews are useless.

Reviews throw out the highs and the lows and the truth will be somewhere in the middle.
