Anybody in South Florida want a week in the San Blas?
Here is the idea, its kind of a swap. We have a package in Florida, and we need it down here in Panama.
We can fly to Miami to collect it and return the next day, or someone can bring it down here and spend a week snorkeling in the San Blas with us.
Current flights are running about $450 return, plus $25 for a 4x4 trip through the jungle to the island of Carti, then $25 for a lancha to the anchorages.
Obviously we would have to be prudent and so would you, but this can all be sorted in fine detail via email later...

Will "the package" get me arrested? Shot at? Does her husband know?

Re: Anybody in South Florida want a week in the San Blas?
I've been offered to do this, it is usually parts or equipment just too important to ship. When i worked for west marine i had quite a few cruisers that i shipped to( before the internet ). many times certain items in the package never made it to the destination.
To the op, maybe post in the crew wanted section, might find someone who wants to meet up with a boat down there. Plus Miami is a hub, so person doesn't have to be from Florida.
Good luck

Hehehe, I said Miami TO Panama people.
If I had said FROM Colombia to Miami, now THAT could get ya shot at!
I bought some electronics, its about 30 Lbs, Fedex want $1500 to transport it, and we don't know about rough handling etc.
So either one of us goes for a 2 day trip to pick it up, or someone gets a vacation.
Just an idea at the moment, we will probably settle for flying there ourselves, buying a suitcase and bringing it home...
Cruisers down here are always inventing cool ways to get stuff delivered.

No, I did not look...will have to ask my crew....oh you mean the electronic thingy! Yes I saw that...and showed you mine too as I recall.
I shipped my new electronic thingy to Bocas using MBE Bocas and it got there just fine. A bit spendy at $20/kilo, but good reliable quick service. [Still way cheaper than the 1,500 FedEx quoted you].
Also, check w Pavo...he shipped a big heavy thingy right into Carti as I recall.
*** For the rest of the CF crew: Gilana is indeed a real cruiser in the San Blas...not a Colombian drug runner looking for a mule. Cool boat too...it just needs a new...errr..thingy. :-)

Re: Anybody in South Florida want a week in the San Blas?
Just a word of caution. Never never never use FedX for international. They hire out. It may start out fedx, but then it is contracted on certain legs of the delivery. DHL is DHL all the way to your doorstep. There may be other companies that are like DHL, I've been out of the international shipping loop for a while
I made the mistake of sending a package to a pacific island( can't remember which). Well after the package changed hands from carrier to carrier( not fed x carriers) it finally stopped at an island 300 miles short to its destination. My parents, through a long search, found where their box was being held and ask the company ( not fedx but harry's delivery service) to finish the delivery that they paid for. The guy said no, parents had to sail back to the retrieve package. They also had to pay a $300 bribe to get it. Filed complaint, but never got justice.
Never used FedX again. I shipped hundreds of boxes to my parents and other sailors as they circumnavigated, DHL was more expensive, but you got it.

This is a terrific opportunity for someone in FL with the time... Who knew shipping was that costly!

I'm not clear on who is paying for the flight; the OP or the mule?

Obviously the "mule" otherwise one of us would just fly on up there and get it.
What we are offering is for the price of a return ticket, and carrying one suitcase, you get a week in San Blas.
However...we are changing our minds, it looks like the Bright Lights of South Beach are getting brighter, and my dear wife is going for a trip...
The more we look at it the better that option seems.
