Any Other US Citizens Fly from Nassau to Cuba ?
Hello all!
We are thinking of flying from Nassau to Cuba for a holiday.
Any U.S. cruisers embark on the same adventure? How did it go? Where did you leave your boat?
Any and all info greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Just curious...(I saw your other thread, and welcome to CF by the way) If you are going to sail to Marsh, why not sail on to Cuba? Remember its the USA who doesn't want its citizens going to Cuba, NOT the Cubans.... Read up on the do's and don'ts (much of which can be found on this site) and have a good time on your boat. Hundreds (if not thousands) of US vessels travel to Cuba each year

hi! and thanks for the welcome - glad to see so many folks are reading and connecting on here!
The answer to your question: I am only the first mate, and my captain (and husband) are afraid of fines and boat confiscation. We're much closer here in Florida than in Bahamas, I know, but it seems the risk is too great

Have cruised the last 13 years in Cuba. When the Tampa to Havana race was on up until 2003 saw about 300 US yachts at Marina Hemingway. Last year saw 4 and the year before saw 7

AHEM, around here, you ma'am are referred to as "Admiral".
Seriously the predictions of doom and gloom for you and your vessel are just propaganda by OUR government.....As Key West is the major point of embarkation, I hear a lot of stories. Only ONCE in the last five years have I heard of a vessel being fined or confiscated... and THAT one was trafficking in contraband... a LOT of it! Read up, do your homework, don't do anything stooooopid, and sail on to Cuba!

+1
Our motherland was founded on the principle that we are endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights. That law which purports to forbid free people like AMerican citizens from traveling to states with which we are not at war is unconstitutional and wrong. Do your homework, be careful, but go.

And, certainly, get your constitutional legal advice from internet nobodies, who don't substantiate their opinions.

Rather harsh there Gord! I believe he speaks the truth!
To sate your hunger for substance, I have sailed there, and personally know DOZENS of others who have sailed there, and know OF hundreds more, as they mostly come here to KW to tell their stories... 99.9% are positive, and of the negative, most of THOSE are weather related horror stories. In the last few years, I have heard of ONE guy that was given more than a cursory exam by USCG, and he was carrying BOXES of Cohibas.
The propaganda machine of the State Department wants its citizens to believe that the Cubans are going to seize their boat, place them in a dingy jail after raping and mugging them half to death. Simply not true.
I know you are the King of Internet Searches, but in REAL life, sailing to Cuba is NBD!

Well, I am not exactly an 'internet nobody', but rather, a former professor of Constitutional Law and former president of one of the larger chapters of the Federalist Society (the cornerstone of what Hillary Clinton once called the "vast right-wing conspiracy"). My view is widely held among professionals who deal with our Constitution. It is not, alas, the law of the land, according to several stupid Supreme Court decisions. So don't get caught!

Ahhh... visiting the 'Motherland' huh.... that explains a lot..
one slight correction to the above statement... we don't demand... we just go.. there's the difference..

I just love it when someone can back up their opinion like that!

As soon as you tell us your real name, we can all Google your bio and then we will know that you are a "somebody". If you insist on remaining anonymous, you will remain a 'nobody'.
