Re: Any New Jersey sailors?

You are correct with that lol. I'm right next to the Walt Whitman bridge. Like Cherry Hill area

I'm looking for an experienced sailer to help me learn more about my boat (Newport 17). How to rig up the sails etc. and the basics on sailing it. And where I can sail. I don't know many spots!

I will eventually be taking some Asa 101 and 103.

Re: Any New Jersey sailors?

hi..

Congrats on the boat. I learned the very basics on an O'Day 17, so its a good size to learn on. (IMO 17 is a bit small for the DEL river because of current and commercial traffic etc, so seek out inland lakes.)

Check this out:

From the Cooper River Yacht Club site:
The Club members provide a free mentoring program for all community sailors. The mentors can help you with all aspects of community sailing. Need help rigging your boat? A mentor can explain how and help you rig.
May be worth exploring.

Just across the river is the Corinthian YC with an active program. However with your boat I would also look into lake sailing in the area. Up the river a few miles on the Jersey side is Riverton YC where other opportunities might be.
