Anchoring out during Annapolis Boat show

Hey y'all

Just curious how hard or easy it is to find a spot to anchor close to the action during the show. We are sailing from Providece RI to Charleston SC and will be passing through Annapolis during the show. Any ideas would be appreciated. We are somewhat familiar with the area as we have chartered there and attended the show in recent years. We have a 50ft boat with a 5'11" draft.

Thanks in advance

Will

Re: Anchoring out during Annapolis Boat show

Arrive several days early, go up Spa Creek and hang out. Or show up even earlier and get a ball right at the edge of the show. We spent more than one boat show anchored up the creek, and one fun year on a ball (benefit was appearing in the photo on the next years poster). Have fun, makes me wish I was still out cruising.

The key is to get there early. Spa Creek fills up quickly. You can always anchor in one of the other creeks, but it’s a hike to get into town. Some people also anchor outside in Severn River, but it’s exposed, especially to northerlies that time of year.

Back Creek can be an option, but that still needs early arrival. There are a few mooring balls back in there too... but don't know for what length boat. I don't have any experience with Weems Creek. I think most of the nearer balls in Spa Creek for longer boats can't be used during the show...

Here's a resource: http://www.annapolis.gov/government/...s/harbormaster

Re: Anchoring out during Annapolis Boat show

I was in Annapolis last week and tried to find a spot to anchor in Back Creek. Finlally found the very last mooring ball near Bert Jabins. I didn't go any farther up the creek but it as certainly crowded. Mostly sailboats. Do you think that people are coming in THIS early for the boat show, or is a packed Back Creek normal for this time of year?
