Anchoring in NJ

Heading South from Sandy Hook, and the plan was to inlet hop, but now that I look at the charts...

Looks like there really isn't anyplace, until you get to Barnegat Bay, right?
Or am i missing some special secret spot?

I see a tiny spot in Shark River, big enough for maybe just a few boats.

But Manasquan really doesn't seem to have anything at all. Unless you can tiie up for the night at one of the restaurants if you stop for dinner and a few drinks? Otherwise all shallow water except for the channel and right in front of the marinas.

Try using Active Captain to find anchorages:

ActiveCaptain - The Interactive Cruising Guidebook

Probably no anchoring room at Shark River/Belmar, but it looks like there is an anchorage at the next inlet south at Manasquan in the "Glimmer Glass".... you should be able to get in there with your 2 ft. draft.

Then further south you should find lots of anchoring room in Barnegat Bay.

Good ole "Skipper Bob" will steer you in the right direction. Glimmer Glass is one of my favorites... took my 5' draft & 40' stick in there. Watch that turn at the channel entrance... stick close to the daymarker.

I saw that one, but only 1' near the entrance, did have me questioning it.

On the other hand, you can easily make Barnegat in a day. Maybe I'll just head straight there, since I'm planning on anchoring near Lavallette for a week or so anyway...which is where the new, yet to be registered dink is sitting in my sister's back yard.

There is an island just South of the Pt Pleasant canal... I holed up behind it once. It was protected and good holding.

I'm thinking of just heading to Barnegat and anchoring up in Silver Bay, aka: Cattus Island, aka: Mosquito Cove. Looks really well protected, the single review it has on Active Captain is great.

And it's right across from Ocean Beach, where my sister's house is.
