I agree with the positive commentary on
Belize. I went twice, down and up, with my first
boat, a
Cape Dory 33 that drew 5.5 feet. We just squeaked through Puerto Stuck, plowing a groove the whole way - making it clear how the place got it's name.
Careful about hugging the reef on the way down as a moment's inattention would mean disaster, especially at night.
Inland travel in
Belize is very interesting as well, so unless things have changed dramatically in the last few years I would still recommend: San Pedro to clear in and a visit to Placencia, etc. The Freya Rauscher cruising guide to Belize is/was the best.
