27 Footer Crossing to the Bahamas

is a 27 foot powerboat (Regal 2665) enough boat to cross from Miami to the Bahamas? If it is, is there a course you would recommend for a smaller vessel?

Size has nothing to do with seaworthiness just put a cork in a bottle throw it over and it will make it through the worst hurricane and around the world! If your boat and you are capable Wait for a calm day and go to Binimi it’s a little over 40 miles

distance from Miami to Bimini is <50 miles. Go on a flat day and you're there in a couple of hours. 19' open fishermen do it all the time. Back when I was a kid people used hi-tech of the time to navigate there--- leave at night, keep the lights from Miami at your back till you pick up the lights of bimini.

You'll get a lift from the Stream.

The summer is the calmest. In the early morning it's like glass a lot of the time. It's also hurricane season but that generally doesn't start cranking up until August.

The prevailing wisdom is that you should NEVER try to cross the Gulf Stream when the wind is from any point of north. The wind and current conspire to build waves "shaped like elephants". Larger, stouter vessels have had problems in those conditions. When the wind is from any point south, no problemo.

Try to look for other similar boats and go together. You will out of VHF range for part of the trip. If you break down in the stream - next stop - England.
