Naw, you need mega ton Frigates with nuclear plants that can power Phalanx guided lasers...a swarm of small craft is totally engaged in seconds with pin point accuracy. Could be defeated by mines though.

oh yeah, UK had respectable marine force all the way up to sixteenth century.

Their army ships could go to windward as well !
