Turkey: Terrorist threats to cruising areas.
The US government is warning of credible threats... for the first time including crusing areas...:
"The U.S. Mission in Turkey would like to inform U.S. citizens that there are credible threats to tourist areas, in particular to public squares and docks in Istanbul and Antalya,"

Re: Turkey: Terrorist threats to cruising areas.
I suspect that Istanbul and Antalya may not be as safe as it once was but it wouldn't stop me going back to Turkey. There has been more activity in places like France but no one is suggesting that it's not safe to visit there. Cruising itself is not entirely safe as every year people are lost but it beats sitting at home watching TV.

Re: Turkey: Terrorist threats to cruising areas.
terrible awful shame. Turkey has some of the most beautiful anchorages anywhere in the Med and great friendly people. We just left heading west this last season and will miss it.
Imagine no religion.... Its easy if you try...

Re: Turkey: Terrorist threats to cruising areas.
The warning was not for sailors I assume.. If airports, public transport, etc. is meant, then it may happen in Paris, Brussel, even in Australia as it happened.
The safest places on earth are the seas right now (with the exception of well know pirate zones..)
So, keep on crusing whether it be in Turkey, Greece, France, Spain or wherever you like..
Cheers

Re: Turkey: Terrorist threats to cruising areas.
Our government still thinks it's OK, except for the border and surrounding area.
Scroll past all the Dutch blabla to see the map; yellow = be careful, orange = avoid if possible, red = no go.

Re: Turkey: Terrorist threats to cruising areas.
Ok let me post a better link.
This is not a general travel advisory but an "Emergency" advisory issues for a specific threat.
"Emergency Message for U.S. Citizens: Credible Threats to Public Squares and Docks in Istanbul and Antalya
April 9, 2016
The U.S. Mission in Turkey would like to inform U.S. citizens that there are credible threats to tourist areas, in particular to public squares and docks in Istanbul and Antalya. Please exercise extreme caution if you are in the vicinity of such areas."

Re: Turkey: Terrorist threats to cruising areas.
That page is THE official page for our country.
It says "Laatst gewijzigd op: 29-03-2016 | Nog steeds geldig op: 10-04-2016" which means the last change was on 3/29 and all the info is valid up until 4/10 - no mention of any emergency.
After some specific searching with thanks to the info you posted, I found were a few news articles stating that the Dutch government is NOT changing the current advice (which is what I linked too) nor issuing any warnings.

Re: Turkey: Terrorist threats to cruising areas.
We are in Turkey and have no plans to leave. The warnings by the US Gov't are what they are. We have been in more than one country where they told us not to go or leave and we generally ignore them. A lot of it is CYA --
BUT saying that the Israel Gov't told their citizens to get out. Now that made us sit up and listen. We are in Kusadasi - a tourist port and will avoid going downtown when a cruise ship is in - Setur Marina has great security so we do not worry here.
And then again we hope to sail the Black Sea this summer - any idea what my insurance company thinks of that idea?
And of course we spent 2 winters in Tunisia -
OH one thing on the USA embassy in Turkey -- we have sent 6 notes to the embassy to be put on the watch notice so we could get alerts - we have yet to hear back from them - what a joke they are --

Re: Turkey: Terrorist threats to cruising areas.
GoTurkeyTourism site lists 10 cruise ship ports.
I'd argue that anywhere with a cruise ship just docked would be an attractive target.
Terrorists are obviously undereducated and paradise-deluded retards - but having a backup plan doesn't exactly take genius.
OTOH marinas probably don't have enough kafirs packed together... and killing a few yachties won't cripple a nation's tourist industry.
So we're fine then

Please don't denigrate the f'ing messenger.
Ignore warnings as you like or assess risk in your own way. But the errent stupidity of denigrating someone who passes one on is just infantile.
