Yes, it's a pity the middle east is so screwed up, thanks to the USA that just had to go into Iraq with no probable cause. Most of the Syrian bloodshed came from the aftermath of Iraq. Turkey is paying a hell of a price as well.

Eh Turkey played its own game with Syria of publicly being against Islamic militants but privately funding anti-Assad forces. Most of the ISIS cash flow came through Turkey for the initial two years.
We always reap what we sow. The EU did in Libya and Syria, Ukraine.

Couldn't agree more...these areas have been tribel for their history and for a simple idiot like George Bush to think they should have a democracy was a really bad idea.

Don't disagree that we reap what we sow but my point was that the USA had no business being in there in the first place.

Turkey is playing both sides of every fence, except for the Kurdish fence. Just like the Saudis (minus the Kurdish issue.) Problem is Turkey is so half-assed that they can't prevent counter-strikes. Erdogan is going to sink that ship.

Pity about the unnecessary loss of life and the fact such beautiful cruising grounds as those by Marmaris may now be out of bounds for safety reasons.
However, this was not a surprise.
I was in Marmaris last fall surveying a boat when the U.S. State Department issued a travel warning to Americans not to visit the Turkish Arabian Peninsula because of ISIS infiltration.
Locals told of ISIS clashes not reported in the media because of a Turkish government ban.

For us cruisers it means things are getting far to close to cruising areas. Its just 35nms by road from Kuşadasi, 100nms from Marmaris and a stones throw from the cruisers Must See of Ephesus.

For sure he is going to make it a different ship, but probably not sinking it.
What Erdogan is doing is taking Turkey from the Western world (abandoning the idea of integrating EC) and turning their views to the Islamic world where it looks for a predominant role and quite possibly will have it with the support of Russia. Turkey has 98% of Muslims and they are supporting Erdogan.
That puts also in question Turkey's role with NATO. For now he is playing with both sides in what regards that even if I cannot see it as a sustainable position.
