Tax on Boats Again - But with a difference

Hi Guys,

There are quite a few boats about in Europe that are Tax Not paid, Where as I am happy to pay tax on a boat as I and my wife are on a English Passport but live full time in Germany.

Now my mother in law is Ukrainian, and lives in the Ukraine, If she bought us our dream 40 footer and gave it us as a present, would we still have to pay the VAT ??

or

She purchased the dream 40 footer and lent it to us on a regular basis ????
