Sicily

hi there,

I#m sailing from the Costa Brava next week down via Mallorca and Sardinie towards Sicily and want to winter in Sicily. Wo knows a good mooring over there. Safe and good money. Eventually in the water or on land? Any proposal would be welcome. My vessel is 40 ft, monohull.
Thanks a lot

Re: Sicily

The two main liveabroad marina's in Sicily are Licarta Homepage - Marina di Cala del Sole and Marina Di Ragusa Marina di Ragusa. Both are cheap (if staying in the water) and safe. Both have good live abroad communities.
Licarta is in a all year round town so has lots going on even during the winter. MDR on the other hand is really a summer town and is very quiet in the winter.
Licarta suffers from very bad fouling and we do mean VERY bad. MDR does not suffer from this.

Licarta does not have it's own boat yard how ever there is one in the harbour next to the marina. MDR has it's own boatyard with travel hoist etc. However, you cannot live aboard whilst the boat is on land nor can you carry out work on your hull. The boat yard must do that. Work anywhere else on boat you can do but not the hull.

Lift out & storage on land in both yards is expensive.

MDR is probably the most popular. We spent last winter there and have no problems in recommending it. We visited Licarta (by car) and would say that MDR is the better of the two.

Re: Sicily

I believe the MdR boatyard has changed its policy and is now allowing owners to work on the boat. You will still have to find accommodation on land in MdR.

Based on your statement I assume that policy has changed since we left on 10th April this year. Please confirm your source.

Re: Sicily

I got a proposal for the winter. And is a fairly good quotation what they offered. On the hard it is very expensive. I cannot not understand why. I will contact them again and see what is the best they can do.
