What we'll do is still undecided. But cruising and visiting the EU for 90 days and then leaving for 90 days is not something I'm willing to comply with, so I won't go.

Hopefully this will be changed soon so we cruisers can visit some beautiful countries* without overly restrictive legislation forcing us to leave every 3 months.
* like - for example - USA

Visa regulations in EU are just reflecting the US policy, and it is not very probable they will be changed without the change on the other side.
It is just matter of symmetry in international relations.

The EU has a 90 day limit out of 180 days, so it's different than the Caribbean.

your comment is actually a political view in ( thin ) disguise Dave
That "danged gubermints" term let the kitty outa the litter didn't it?

I do get your point tho Dave, which is I don't know a danged thing about what goes on in the Med. Does that confession make ya feel a little better? *

There are some problem necessary to solve before making the things easier on both sides of the pond will be possible.
  1. To achive the situation where US will be treating all EU citizens on the same basis;
  2. To reach agreement on fingerprinting and photo taking - or no EU citizens would be fingerprinted and photographed on US border, or all US citizens would be fingerprinted and photographed on EU border;
  3. To achieve common agreement on the length of acceptable stay on the basis of touristic travel and enforcing it on both sides symetrically.
May be not a great problems, but I guess it will take no short time...

Don't say this!!! We're doing our final provisioning for an Atlantic crossing right now. The 90 days in 90 days out almost derailed the trip before, but after a lot of talking, we figured it would be ok. Seems in previous years everyone talked about the lack of enforcement of these policies....maybe changing.

The 90 day limit also affects those of us who might visit French Polynesia from the US. Still, 90 days in a region isn't bad, as long as the next destination is worth one's while.

With respect to the EU, do England and Ireland consider your stay, say in Sweden, as part of their limit? Could make for a whirlwind visit to Europe.

Let´s not mix the whole EU on this. It is just the Schengen countries. We Brits have nothing to do with that!

OP can go and spend a winter in England to reset his Schengen clock.

Alternatively he can just go to Spain and learn to lay low.

Thanks for the correction. I admit I was unsure how to spell "Schengen" and "EU" was the lazy man's way out.

Sorry for lumping y'all in with the Schengen folks!

And to the rest of your point, if we do decide to cross the Atlantic, England is definitely on the list of countries to visit.

Cheers!

Hmmm... generally within EU Your main fiscal residence for given fiscal year is where You are spending 183 or more days in this fiscal year...
But You are Brit, and Brits try to disintegrate EU by doing everything upside down, so I do not know
