Satellite DSL for Cruisers in the Med

The title pretty much outlines my quest; how to and who to get for DSL while underway in the Med. My wife and I do a lot of work online and really need a good affordable way to continue our online activities unabated at mucho more than dial up speeds.
There are exorbitant units available but what is the going bare bones system that comes out most favoured? The area needed would be Europe / Med zones.Anyone?

There are really affordable plans available in Europe for peanuts, but as soon as a boat gets involved their prices go berzerk. So much that I'm considering installing a land unit with an inverter, but the dish, on the spreaders?!!

How do you orient your dish dynamically to the satellite on a moving boat?

Re: Satellite DSL for Cruisers in the Med

Most of the med is covered by 3G. $10/Gb or less

Re: Satellite DSL for Cruisers in the Med

It's called a cell phone, or a wifi hotspot. DSL stands for Digital Subscriber Line, it's internet over copper phone lines, or the original dial up. Usually excruciatingly slow.

Okay,
you know what I'm talking about but for your benefit I shall spell it out;
SATELLITE DSL SPEEDS INTERNET for sailors cruising the Med.
NOT cell phone pal.

Yelling and insulting the people trying to help is never a good idea.

Not to mention the fact that you look very silly not understanding that 3G/4G IS CELLPHONE technology. 3G/4G is the only "highish" speed internet for boats that I know of in the Med. Coverage is spotty and the speeds are usually slower than any land based connection.

Another option would be to stay in Marinas that offer high speed WIFI. Although most Marinas offer no guarantee on their services, so relying on it for work may be a gamble.

No one is yelling or insulting but I can start if you want to pick a fight.
People who are wired to the max and up to date with all the technology are so smug about it all and sneer at those who ask. NOT welcome.
I asked a simple question and don't accept condescension or attitude as a reply.

Then I'll answer "not possible" because your post is about internet over a copper phone line. Which is not really an option on a boat.

And since you're incredibly rude, I see no reason to provide you with any more helpful information about what IS available then you have already been given. You'd just find that condescending anyway since it involves explaining a few things you need to know.

(And this from someone on a very basic boat, not "wired to the max and up to date with all the technology" but enjoying a decent internet connection. In Europe.)

Re: Satellite DSL for Cruisers in the Med

Ok then. This is the site to use
http://prepaid-data-sim-card.wikia.c..._SIM_with_data
Browse to the country of interest and you will see the data deals and rates
For example, Italy with TIM
Data packagePriceData VolumeMax. SpeedValidity Period
Internet Start10 €2 GB100 Mbps28 days
Internet Large20 €5 GB100 Mbps28 days

Etc

3G or 4G SIM cards will be the fastest internet you get in Europe. Better than marinas and work up to 20 miles offshore.

Surprises me so many people are helpful to such an arrogant person.

Sent from a stupid phone that replaces words with weird stuff.

Re: Satellite DSL for Cruisers in the Med

it depends on the actual country - Spain the best option is prepaid internet from

https://www.digimobil.es/index.php?idLang=2

France is tricky as it is difficult to get a SIM card - I managed to get my French Lebara SIM from ebay..

Greece - 3G sim from any provider will do the job

you also will need a 3G router - plenty available in Amzon and ebay

In order to answer your question, we need to know exactly what you are asking. Just by the fact that you mixed up satellite with DSL and internet service on a boat indicates you have no clue what you're talking about, so how is anyone supposed to guess what your question really was about?

Nobody was getting smug with you, they simply answered your question, but you aren't informed enough to even understand that much.

A better answer is to use the "Search" function, because this question has been answered at length probably a thousand times, so I don't see any reason why your laziness should result in multiple people wasting their time educating you when you should be educating yourself.

So this is how you treat luddites??!!!
Talking down to me, quips and cuts, and snipe replies.

I didn't come here for that.
Since you can't understand what I'm asking I'll ask INFORMED people
