Question Naples, Italy, Anchorages

Hi sailors!

This summer I'll arrive to Naples and wish to anchor near the city. Is there any suitable place to anchor? Otherwise, which port or marina may be convenient to stay a couple of days near Naples?

Soft winds

Naples

We stayed in a nice little harbor when we visited Naples. Take a look at: Home Page

You'll see that we enjoyed our time there.

Naples

S&!t hole of the earth.

Even the locals warned us about parking our car in the street, and watch for pick pockets.

After a month visiting Italy it is the one place I would not return to.

Hi, Jim
Thank you for the post.
Your journey around the Med is exactly what I'm doing. Your site www.tenayatravels.com is great and very helpful. It fulfills wonderfully my question.

Thank you, Brian
Last summer I sailed the north and west coast of Italy, Sardinia and Elba islands. We had no safety issues. After our summer cruise I wintered my boat at Ostia (Porto Turistico di Roma) finding it very convenient and safe. I know Naples is another story and their lack of safety is well know, so I appreciate your warning. May be the whole south of Italy and Sardinia are unsafe.

Hi, Jim
Thank you for the link. It is great and very helpful for my next cruise.
The journey you did around Italy is exactly what I intend to sail this summer from Naples down to Sicily and finally Corfu.

The train leaves from the harbor and we stopped at both Pompeii and Naples. Very easy and cheap. The museum in Naples is fantastic. Naples is a large city and maybe not as safe as some big cities, but we had no problems…using the same precautions you would in downtown Los Angeles. If you have any other questions email me direct (hotmail account from my website) since we won’t have WiFi very often.
Enjoy your time there!

I agree with everyone above, tons of little ports along the way. Not any more unsafe then any other big city. You just have to be alert, careful and use common sense. Spent months all over Italy, never had a problem.. "knocks on wood"
