Lightbulb Med itinerary advice

Hi all,

Looking for some advice and tips on planning our itinerary for the upcoming season in the med from the folks who done it.

The boat (L39 cat, not new, but new to us) is currently in Croatia. We have prior sailing and cruising experience, but not in the med.

My wife, who loves the towns and hates breaking the bank, yet allowed me to pursue this nonetheless, and our two lovely school-age kids will join me.

Ultimately, I would like to end up in the Canaries in the November, still married, loved by my kids, not broke, and with the boat refitted for the crossing, (priorities in that order). The immigration (90d Schengen) is not a factor in our particular case.

So, how best to plan to spend the next 10 months, Jan-Nov? What destinations should we aim for and for which months? Any tips to make this happen reasonably economically? Anything that would make it easy and fun for the family?
Feel free to message me privately, if preferred, and thank you kindly in advance!

Go through the Corinth Canal and spend some time in the Greek Islands, exploring all the historic places in Greece and Turkey. Then cross over to Southern Italy and Sardinia, (both cheap places when we were there), and on to the Balearics, especially Minorca. Then coast hop down the east coast of Spain to Gibraltar, where you wait to cross to the Canaries about this time next year and wait for the trades for the Atlantic crossing. Piece of cake!

Doing something similar. What age are your kids?

I'm hoping to leave in June from Greece and visit the islands. Anything after that will be a bonus.

Winter weather in the Med can get interesting and very few boats go anywhere until April. Starting in Croatia in January you will need to keep a very close eye on the weather and will need to have proper heating.

If you do that be careful in the gulf of Patras and Corinth, there are sometimes fierce winds from the west, usually starting at midday.

In the gulf of Corinth there is a very helpful anchorage for such occasions, it is suitably called Anemocampi.

In the approches to the gulf of Patras watch out for the sandbank on the north shore.

Last not least, I heard that there are works going on in the canal of Corinth. So check that it is not closed for longer times.
