Re: Independence Day, Greek Style

A really great post! You can catch tranditional parades at March 25th and October 28th so you can have more photos. The biggest parade is at Syntagma with tranditional costumes and some additions from Greek Army.

Thats Symi right ?
We will be passing that way in a few weeks but we will be on the Turkish side of the line en-route to Cyprus. Will probably head back into Greece afterwards though.

Yes, that was Symi. Beautiful little port in a fjord like setting. Out of season it is dead quiet. In season cruise ships line up and hundreds of tourists flood the town. A lot to be said for winter .

They'll be having another Independance Day soon... when they exit (get booted out) the EU and Schengen..
There's a lot off truth in that 2000+ year old saying.. 'Never Trust the Greeks'

I need to balance that view .

I have lived in Greece for several years now. It is not just the spectacular cruising grounds, but the people themselves that hold us here.

Business dealings and war tactics aside (and anyone not cautious about these I would label "naive" at the least), I have never come across anyone more honest or generous. Tourists are the ones to watch out for here, not the Greeks .

Re: Independence Day, Greek Style

We will not be having another independance day ... To your disappointment . Against those who probably wish greeks to exit euro zone. As for not trust greeks the best answers comes from the majority of cruisers experiencing greek hospitality and friendliness.
However we are not saints, mean people are unfortunately everywhere.
Fair winds to all!

Lovely. I will be in Kilada next week picking up a catamaran to take to the States. What a pity to have missed it! Tony
