How many of you have risked not checking out when leaving ?

Curious - I was tempted to change course and just leave Turkey at one stage.
I am much too law abiding to risk it in reality - but was wondering - as I was un-likely to ever return to Turkey, what would the implications be if I had done that.
Many years ago I left USA without handing back the silly little white card and they now see that when I return and I get a second look - but I still got my long term B1/B2 visa
How many of you have done it ? and what happened after ?

Kris

Many cruisers go back and forth into Greece without checking in and out but if you are leaving for good what is stopping you from doing a normal check out procedure?

We'll the implications of not checking out will be that you will be barred from entering Turkey again if you ever wish to do so for five yrs and a fine up to 5000 euros

For the cost of the checking out agents fee of around 60 euros is that the reason you don't want to clear out

Re: How many of you have risked not checking out when leaving ?

Am well aware of the implications - not only for the crew individually, but for the captain and / or owner, as well as the vessel itself. And of course its all on the computer available to interpol.
Was just curious how many people had done it , why , and if the repercussions were bad.
I just posted a similar post on Facebook SSCA and had it removed by the moderators immediately as being "un-lawfull and not in keeping with the sites policy".

Was hoping to get a resounding support for my overriding my naughty side and being a law-abiding cruiser

I fly the British and South African flags and am always aware that some SA-ffers have tarnished our reputation and I have had to suffer the consequences. I try my best to be "good".
Example - Newspaper headlines in St Maarten "MOUTH AFRICANS"...

Re: How many of you have risked not checking out when leaving ?

I've not checked in and out in some of the Caribbean islands fro various reasons. In most of them I spend one day or two maximum anyway. Nothing happened so far.
I also had to leave Malta for Turkey w/out checking out as a result of emergency. I had some issues on my return but was then settled.
Turkey since many years now is keeping the track of the boats in and out very well. Yr passport number is also registered; if you don't have to return at all back, you may get aweay with it, but if you have to for some reason even with an airplane 10 years from now, you will have serious trouble for sure.
