Holding tanks for turkey
Hi all,
Can someone please tell me what is required for turkey re holding tanks. Obviously toilet water needs holding but what about shower water and galley water?
How often are authorities exoecting a pump out for 2 or 3 aboard?
Thanks in advance.

Black water holding tanks are required. Grey water not. At leat at the moment.
You need to pump out at least every two weeks, one week is preferable. every pump out will be registered on the Blue Card. If pump-out done recently, CG is happy.
Heavy fines for not pumping out, unfortunately.

I have never been asked about disposal of grey water (i.e. showers & galley). All interest was dedicated to the data on the Blue Card (which was updated after black water pumpout).

Re: Holding tanks for turkey
As MArtin said there is no need for grey water tanks. For black water tanks, you need to have a blue card (it costs 10 € or so) and you need to pump out in ump out stations. Normally pump out should cost couple of euros but some marinas are charging up to 10-15 €. This is against the law. You should register yr blue cards once you did that. If the cost guard question, they can read yr card and realize when you did the pump out.
Cheers

Re: Holding tanks for turkey
Thanks Yeloya,
We have a catamaran with 4 toilets, but only have black water tank on 2 as only 2 of us onboard and we dont use the other 2 toilets. Will we face trouble from authorities or do we need to disable the 2 with no tanks? Example lock the toilets?

Yeloya may know better, but my experience od many years is that nobody actually checks the boat. Authorities check only the data on the Blue Card.

If you don't use any of the heads , you simply lock them. Coast guard boards the boats very very rarely and they are usually very polite. In one occasion, 5-6 years ago they boarded a swiss flagged boat south of Bodrum and found out that the valves were open. Keep them closed if they approach you. This swiss boat was detected unfortunately by a helicopter upon the complaint of german flagged boat + an open valves resulted in 3.000 € fine.
This is not a drama,, a bit of common sense and respect for others, you will never have a problem.
Cheers

Re: Holding tanks for turkey
Sorry to resuscitate this old thread, as I am just installing a holding tank so that I can visit Turkey (amongst other Med places).
What are the standards in terms of installation for emptying them out? Will any dimension deck fill cap do? Any specific diameter?
Also, how is the emptying process? A negative pressure pipe? Please elaborate!
thank you

Re: Holding tanks for turkey
It's simple, the tank should have :
-the aearation exit from the top of the tank to upper hull,
-a flange on the deck connected to the top of the tank to suck with a pump when necessary,
-an entry hose coming from the WC from the buttom with a check valve ,
-a drain valve to discharge to content of the tank by gravity.
Tanks are ususally between 50-80 lt depending how many WC is connected to it and how much space is available in the heads.
Cheers

Thank you!
This part is of interest to me - what attachment do use:
1. a pipe that runs all the way to the inside of tank?
2. a negative pressure (suction) attachment?
I was planning to connect to bottom of tank.
