Guys.
Not even the Greek Prime Minister knows what is going to happen. Next we will be having fights over the Chinese, the Russian or the Italian Mafia taking over Greece.

Salty and me have put an offer in to run the country. Its a simple plan. We will pay everyone $1000 a week. Everyone.

We will then tax everyone $500 a week, and charge $500 a week rent on their houses, even if they own it. This will encourage the Greeks to adopt the boating community and cook food at a cheap rate, sell wine at a cheap rate and clean and fix the boats at a cheap rate. Salty reckons that if we let the Populace keep half of what they make, and give us the rest,, we can have the country debt free in a few years.

Salty is also going to start a Monkey Sanctuary on one of the Islands.

We reckon $20 a night per berth in a marina, regardless of boat size (or $200 a month paid in advance) will soon drag all the business from Monaco and if we put a racing circuit in........ wow!

We will however have expenses. We need to buy extra hobs for every restaurant so as to heat the food up a bit.......

We can do this guys...... we can sort Greece out!

The situation in Greece reminded me of that famous "poster child" predatory lending anecdote when a large US bank had authorized a 300K housing loan to an illiterate illegal cleaning woman who was making $10/hr and then all the pro-bank yahus were harping on her for being a deadbeat borrower. Don't see any difference.

The Greeks of course should suck it up, go back to drahma and to what they do best - service mid-level tourism, produce cheap oil and cheese for worldwide consumption and build and man cargo ships. I do think that will be their only realistic solution to their problems.

this may not be as bad as it seems in the long run. If the Greeks do take up the drachma again that will certainly collapse the economy. But if they do inpload at least they know where and how to start it up again on a different currency.
I'm not saying it will be easy but if the Greeks can get past this idea of spending without limits and actually think about running a modern economy. They just might pull out of this in five years or so better a lot off then they are now. It will take sacrafice and conservative ideas in the beginning though.
And No More Borrowing. Cut cost and look to outside money sources like Shipping, Manufacturers, Businesses, International Banking, Tourism, and cruisers for monetary gains. A better work ethic would be a big help as well.

i have to think that the Government has to open up more to let capital into the country. A high tide raises all boats. When the people finally figure out what they really voted for because there's no food on their plates.The Government will be facing huge problems.
But with that can come huge changes that will in the long run help everyone in Greece and the Cruising community. Just pray and hope for sound thinking and common sense to enter the situation.

We have been in Greece for the past two months, all the islands in the Nth Ionion have been fine so far...ie. getting diesel...getting cash out of ATM, even when British media were sprouting they had ran out..marinas are still lifting boats in and out and work is still being done in the yards...so far so good.
A lot of locals are obviously worried but life goes on.
It certainly hasn't got to last one out turn the lights off

We were in Lesbos last week - I wouldn't say the immigrant crisis was on a massive scale - sure, they were there but I got the impression that it was under control and from our perspective they weren't out of control. What was interesting was that they were not mostly from North Africa as you would expect but from the Far East, which was a bit of a surprise!

I'll second that prediction. Nothing improves the quality of tourist services faster than a financial collapse. As long as it doesn't result in a civil war - which won't happen in this case. Next year will be a great time to visit Greek Islands.
