Dardanelles Sailing

Hello, looking for some clarification regarding sailing the Dardanelles. I am told that you can't throw your sails up but instead must motor the entire length. Is this true? I will enter there in a couple of days and needed to clarify. Thanks

Re: Dardanelles Sailing

I don't know if you can use sails but between the strong current, the high volume of traffic and the TSS it sounds like a bad thing to do. You are also advised to stay outside the TSS.

ETA: Link to rule 10 (j) of COLREGS may also apply to you.

Re: Dardanelles Sailing

Thanks for the input. I sailed it a month ago and motored the whole way, under instruction. Really fancied doing it with wind, but might be a no-go
