I am sure Turkey is a great place to sail and stay, I would love to come visit by boat also. Cruisers have always said that sailing is cheaper the more east in the Med you go. Based on the prices seen here that statement seems no longer completely true?
We all have different cruising budget and what we value to see for our hard earned money. After experiencing life for some time we have a pretty good idea of where you are welcome and where you are not. Governments and marina owners making regulations overly difficult and prices high do not make our kind of sailers feel very welcome. Nice people and experiences usually do not cost much if anything. Others think that 200€ per night in a marina is good value. The smile you see is probably a laugh on your behalf because everyone knows it is a rip-off . We don’t like that kind of smile.
So where to go in the Mediterranean to make you budget last longer and don’t miss out on the fun in the sun?
We only chartered about 10 days out of Marmaris last year. We mostly tied up by a restaurant where the docking was "free". We did pay to dock for 3 nights....Bodrum, Gocek and My Marina. Gocek was the most expensive but not totally outrageous. I only went there because I was having bacon withdrawals. ( Easier than sailing to Greece ).
We found cruising the Lycian and Carian coasts not expensive at all considering how cheap the food was.

I am right now in Datca for the night, a nice little sleepy town not far from Marmaris. OK, it is off-season, but the harbour fee is 5€/night for a 78´boat. Electricity and water on the jetty, an extra 2€. Not all places are expensive.
And now, off-season, there are so many empty restaurant jetties to go alongside.

Just what I wanted to hear Martin. And as others have mentioned a good anchor should pay for itself. I guess there is no online recourse that keep track of nice little cheap harbors in sleepy towns in the Med? We usually don’t need a lot of service we tied up.
