Cost is important, but I am looking at the overall cost of cruising, for a
family of 4. We live about 7 hours drive from the Istria - We've done the trip and much more (until Split) many times. Even with a
cheap flight the 4 of us are looking at 700EUR-ish plus hire car per trip to
Greece and
Turkey. If we can substitute just 2 flights per year, that's easily a thousand - and I can still fly to e.g. Split if I jump down for a quick "maintenance" weekend alone.
I also like working on the
boat myself: flying with my usual toolbox is an absolute no-go, and of course having a car is a great help in
provisioning. Rental = further $$$, which may be OK, but shouldn't be forgotten if we deem one country "expensive" the other "cheap".
