I'm finally back in Cowes after the 3000-mile round trip to Eastern
Finland and back.
Cowes is a beehive of
racing activity during the summer, and the summer is not yet over. Yesterday there was a huge Etchells
race, and today there are races going on all over the Solent. Cowes is not only the center of the universe, where
offshore sail
racing is concerned,
offshore powerboat racing also takes place here. There is a gaggle of hot powerboats in Cowes today getting ready for the Cowes-Torquay-Cowes offshore powerboat
race, which starts tomorrow.
Wow, that's a crazy race. The
record is nearly 100 knots (!) over the 200-odd mile course.
I know those waters well -- you would have to be completely insane. I think I'll
anchor out tomorrow and watch the start.
