Top tip, try to refuel somewhere nearby on the Thursday and not need to refuel near Split on a Friday afternoon. We were in Trogir this year on Friday 7 July at 3pm and it was CARNAGE refuelling near Baotic. There was a nasty
wind coming up the channel and about 30 boats trying to hold position, no queuing system in place either. Maybe Split is better but if you can manage not to refuel on Friday then I would!
We saw two boats sustain some proper damage, one at least was with a professional
skipper onboard as he was in Crew uniform (and the same charter co as our
boat coincidentally) and they were two boats along from us when they limped into the marina. One of the boats got stuck on the
anchor chain of a moored
boat. It was frankly, a nightmare.
Where are you thinking for an itinerary? We went out of Split and North towards Skradin in May, out of Trogir in July and down to Vis, Pakleni, Brac, Solta etc if you have any questions. For the first trip, we were an older dynamic and enjoyed small islands and town quays. The second trip was a younger group with a mix of
marinas and town quays.
We are back sailing out of Dubrovnik on Saturday, but don't know it quite so well that far south!
If you're heading North, we found the town harbours in Sibenik-Knin county very well organised and efficient, but we weren't as rushed to arrive early to find a space as it was pre-peak season. In Splitsko-Dalmatinka, they say you can't pre-book but we made some polite phonecalls and managed to reserve in Stari Grad and Vis Town, worth a try!
