I can't wait to get off this cold wet rock, where every 4th person is clinically depressed,or working a 50 hour a week and still needs a food bank to make ends meet or trying to avoid eye contact with the homeless people that inhabit our boarded up high streets.

We would be well on our way to financial stability by now.... No European country would have refused trade with us.......... Germany sells 30% of its cars to the UK. Hike up prices of spares? Lol.. good news for Japan... they would do a deal and Britain goes fully Japanese.

I think Boatie is right. NOTHING will change in general except going back to trading with Australia and New Zealand and more with the USA and Korea and .... you get the picture. For those that don't know, Australian and New Zealand lamb is the best in the world. Welsh lamb is too expensive.

No European country will snub the UK.. period.

Look what has happened to Greece. Shameful.

As for boating.... if one European country disrespects the UK sailors then we go somewhere else. Spain tried it over Gibraltar. Gibraltar closed the border to the 10000 Spanish workers and....wow! problem was solved immediately.

The UK is not going to take being a political hostage. No country should ever fear to leave a union if it no longer suits them. Drugs from Europe get overpriced to the UK? Ive news for you.. THEY ALREADY ARE. Buy from USA or India.

There is not a problem.

Right because here in the US we have the least expensive drugs available to doctors and the most efficient health care on the planet if you are of means.
Oh and the healthiest foods too.

LOL... let me explain how it works.
Money returned on drug investment comes from your older population at exhorbitant rates. As time passed it gets a little cheaper for patients.
Drugs sold to Canada are at 40% of cost.
Drugs sold to the rest of the world are priced accordingly to their ability to pay.

I can buy genuine drugs in the Indian markets for 15% of USA cost.

In order to deal with the UK as a trading partner, drugs would be cheaper.

I tolerated that arkane system when taking care of my Dad. He was born in Chicago, was in USArmy for years, then got a real job for 30 years all the while paying into Medicare. But then chose to live in Iceland. He paid into the system for all those years and got screwed by the system he vowed to protect.

However why American's don't have free healthcare - the one's on SSI and SSDI or Medicaid get everything for free. Some paid into the system and most did not - loopholes in law allow this. Big boondogle - hopefully Mr Trump can sort it out.
And you think the system in the UK is free lolllll!

I could charge you big buck for a pint, but toss on “free” chips and you’d probably think you’re getting a deal too?!

Also if you think your dad was defending Medicare, yeah no he was defending the country which is her bill of rights, rights most other countries don’t even have.

Re: BREXIT

An Englishman, a Scotsman and an Irishman walk into a bar.
The Englishman wanted to go, so they all had to leave.

Brexit will make prices go up in Britain, so it will cost them twice as much to not go to the dentist.

Why does a Brexiter have so many children?

Because he refuses to acknowledge that pulling out never works.

is not caenarthon in wales,so you never left uk waters,so no need to check in at the moment, though this will probably all change for any non uk vessel and probably also uk vessels arriving from outside of the uk.

however the topic was about american vessels arriving in the uk,who would need to present themselves at a customs port of entry and complete immigration, quarantine and customs at a designated location, and have to report their ETA 48 hours in advance of arrival.

edit yes angela is luveeerly.
paid the same on the moorings for a 39 ft in june.
i think it is £2.50/m currently on the visitors pontoon, and one day free if you stay a week
£20 a night to use your own anchor!

Re: BREXIT

Ive been back in the UK for 4 weeks. I think it has rained every day bar 3. One storm, one night fighting to get the boat held tight during it, one visit to London for meetings and the rest of the time waiting for the politicians to sort themselves out.

I do find the UK expensive. I dont see its related to brexit, but more related to the internal taxation system for years.

I feel for you Alex. I feel for all of the UK. Not for one second do I think leaving the EU will change it..... but leaving gives the UK different options.

I left 23C and sun.

Why? Brexit unsettled a lot of people. It was better to be here as it's thrashed out between Spain and the UK. My role there is reliant on cooperation between the governments.

That said... I am looking for a canal boat and if I do it, will cruise for a couple of years...

..and further to 'that said', if the political problems are resolved sooner, I will be happy to return to the sun ....... sooner. Britain is quite good at medicine really.

But. I do see doggy doo doos in the future for Europe. Being on the outside and watching it is far better than being in the inside.

I don't have to justify anything. Just have to wait and see. I give it 3 years or less. If I'm wrong everyone wins.. even me.

Atoll, you are suffering from not your country blues. It is my country, if you exclude the Irish and South African...and yet I left in '89 coz of the weather and attitudes.

I don't like this weather. I don't like what is happening to the UK from our leaders, and I don't like a number of other things.

It's the same everywhere.. apart from the weather...lol, No one is happy and everyone suffers stress.

I bought a SAD light today.. (3 actually) and put them on for an hour... I FEEL better... burned retinas but my mood has lifted. My neighbour is still a jerk. However, he gets to remain intact another day.

Brexit will be good for Britain. We get to shout at Boris when he fluffs up and we get to work in a determined manner. Like Dockhead, Brexit inconveniences me financially and personally. If people knew what really happens in the EU they would be clamouring to leave. It's not all it's cracked up to be.

And if it all goes wrong, China, Iran and Russia will redirect our attention.

Good tip on the Check in, Cheers.
Had a good night with live folk music in the Chain Locker after a Vietnamese supper across the way.. Yummy Grub.
Horror when I found out a pack of 20 Marlboro was nearly 12 quid so opted for a pack Golden Virginia and papers to last till France.

Sorry, I laughed out loud. I don't smoke but my Spanish dr at my clinic came a week ago for a meeting visit for 2 days and sat in a trauma-induced coma at the price of cigarettes the entire time..

But you see, UK knows people will not stop and just keep putting the price up.

Sorry Phil, I could imagine the look on your face.....

Re: BREXIT

According to a report by the OECD group of industrialised nations, the USA spends roughly twice the average amount spent by other member countries on pharmaceuticals per head.
For example, where the UK paid £398 ($497) per head in 2015, the USA paid $1,162.
This is despite having similar prescription drug usage.
https://www.oecd-ilibrary.org/sites/...on/4dd50c09-en

Let’s say you’re at the doctor. And the doctor hands you a prescription.
The prescription is for Humira, an injectable medication used to treat a lot of common conditions like arthritis and psoriasis. Humira is an especially popular medication right now. In 2015, patients all around the world spent $14 billion on Humira prescriptions — that’s roughly the size of Jamaica's entire economy. Humira is the exact same drug whether it’s sold in the United States, in Switzerland, or anywhere else.
Let’s say your doctor appointment is happening in the United Kingdom. There, your Humira prescription will cost, on average, $1,362.
If you’re seeing a doctor in Switzerland, the drug runs around $822.
But if you’re seeing a doctor in the United States, your Humira prescription will, on average, run you $2,669. (about twice the UK, and triple Switzerland)
If the drugs are so expensive, that you can’t afford them, that’s functionally the same thing, as not even having them on the market; and one in four Americans report trouble paying for their prescription drugs. (https://www.kff.org/health-costs/pre...-who-are-sick/)
However, the United States’ exceptionally high drug prices do help subsidize the rest of the world’s drug research.
