We used Sunsail. Very efficient and professional. Not sure if it was the cheapest option but you can push them on price.

Their Marina is a bit out of Split in a town called Marina.. and they employ a young lady named Marina !!!!

Re: Barefoot Charter Croatia

Not sure if they cats or not but take a look at EuroMarine -- we do not charter as we have our own boat - but we went into Dubrovnik to have some repair work done by EuroMarine - a Jeanneau dealer and we sail a Jeanneau - and we had to wait while they turned over the charter fleet and were quite impressed with the workmanship, care they took of the charter fleet, and the amount of work they put into each boat to get it back, cleaned up, gone over, repaired if necessary and ready for a new charter.
And the work they did for us was simply outstancing - we could not have asked for anything better or seen anything better anywhere

Re: Barefoot Charter Croatia

I chartered a boat in September from Ultra Marine they have Fountaine Pajot cats. I was very happy with the experience. I would charter from them again.

Re: Barefoot Charter Croatia

Speaking of chartering in Croatia (and for that matter Europe) I saw that they are more strict as to formal certifications and 'yet another piece of paper'. I understand that ASA issues the official certification based on completed courses but also saw that they ask for 'VHF licence'. Could somebody advise from direct experience what this licence is, how can be obtained (in the US) and whether it really matters. Thanks!

Re: Barefoot Charter Croatia

Not sure about charting - but the only place we were asked for our quals was in Montenegro - I do not have a capts license but took a bunch of ASA courses and have the book with the stamps in them - after a bit of looking at them they accepted them - saying that it could be when we went to Croatia we did not have to show anything except our normal boat papers ect - they did not ask for quals but we had been to Montenegro so maybe they know what Montenegro requires and if we got in there we were ok for Croatia.
As for VHF or HF license we do not believe we have ever been asked for them.

If you want to know what you need - write EuroMarine in Dubrovnik and ask them what they require. Really nice guys and very helpful. And let me tell you some EU sailors who have "quals" do not have a clue. As I heard one EuroMarine tell a customer when they were doing an initial turnover and the guy said I don't need this I have been sailing for over 10 years. And the guy very nicely asked if he had a boat and they said no he chartered. So the guy said ok so you charter two weeks each year for 10 years so you got maybe less than 6 months of experience. The customer got the point and listened intently. It took all I had to stop from busting out in huge laughter.

Re: Barefoot Charter Croatia

I was asked for my VHF license and ICC when we chartered in Croatia.

I would think your local yacht club or sailing school would have a VHF course.

Re: Barefoot Charter Croatia

Thank you both. I did a fair amount of sailing in both Croatia and Montenegro but on a private boat, and never had any issues. However, the bureaucracy is more strict when chartering. Will check here but other than a VHF course, I don't know that any sort of 'license' exists.
Cheers!
