US Flag Entering USA from Bahamas/Caribbean

Hey all,

Our boat is in a marina in the Bahamas and we're hoping to move it to the Chesapeake in April-may. Does anyone know anything about coming back to the US for USA citizens? Anyone done it yet or know anyone who has? I know the time is coming for the fleet to head back north from Bahamas and Caribbean. I did a quick Google search and only found cruise ship. I'll try to dig more into the CBP website to see if they have anything.

Donít know any specifics myself, but weíre looking at the same thing.

Unfortunately I think youíre thinking too far ahead in the current atmosphere.

That site has not been updated since 2018. Doesnít help with the current pandemic and international travel by private vessel.

That USCBP webpage (Pleasure Boat Reporting Requirements) was Last modified October 24, 2018, and is certainly out of date, and inapplicable.

Plan your route then call the places you intend to stop and sleep or refuel to see if they are or will be open. Be very aware that this is a fast changing situation and in 24 hours everything can be different. My take is that planning more than 4 or 5 days ahead is just wishful thinking, much less 4 to 6 weeks.

There is no way to accurately plan this a month or two in advance.

We are in Fort Pierce and seeing boats come in from the Bahamas daily, US and Canadian flags so far.

Friends of ours came across from the Abacos within the last week, heading for the Chesapeake. They have encountered resistance from marinas to allow new boats in for transient dockage, and so have been anchoring out.
Currently just out of FL hopping outside to the Carolinas.....

Better call ahead to check conditions.

Bahamas is under curfew, all non essential businesses shut, marinas are closed and inter island travel is banned. You won’t be joining your boat for a very long time.

Re: US Flag Entering USA from Bahamas/Caribbean

Ocean Jedi did a straight shot from the Bahamas to Baltimore two years ago. at that time, you merely had to go to the airport to do your immigration within 24 hours and then to the customs office to do the customs. The customs office is located at 40 S Gay St, Baltimore, MD 21202 Phone: (410) 962-2666. In the airport, you have to find the office for immigration outside where the passengers are. Its downstairs, and the airport personal will show you where. Of course, this was before Covid 19, so i don't know if anything has changed.

Thanks for this. It's really hard to find information about Canadians entering the US by private pleasure vessel. We are Canadian Flagged, in the Bahamas, both Canadian citizens -- with E1 visas -- and we're planning to depart for Florida on Tuesday morning.

We have a "disabled" windlass and a hydraulic leak in our steering -- otherwise I'd stay out in the Bahamas for a while longer.

Re: US Flag Entering USA from Bahamas/Caribbean

We came into Lake Worth today from Cat Cay and cleared in with CBP Roam with do difficulties. USCG was out in the Florida Strait approaching boats and getting details about pax and departure points. We have AIS and I assume they were able to go back for weeks to track where we were and they ignored us while stopping several boats in our sight.

We were stopped by Water Police entering Lake Worth Inlet wanting you know names and birthdays as well as health status and what countries we had visited. That was it for inspection.
