Nope - 'Scotty of Hawaii' fresh back from visiting the graves of his ancestors in Pommyland takes an RAAF jet from Canberra to Sydney for a cupla roots and lunch with the kids.

There is a freeway from the Lodge to Kirrabilli ( my son used to be in Navy digs within eyeball of Kirrabilli -- I could get from the Vic border to his home - freeway all the way to the tunnel under the harbour and then two maybe three traffic lights - job done).

So he could have taken a limo from Lodge to Kirrabilli and back - fraction of the cost and the only contact would have been with the limo driver ( hopefully masked ) in the same time as getting an Uber to Fairbourne - doing the full airport thingo - and then on arrival Sydney doing the repeat thingo.

As the Kiwis would say - he has the head of a duck.

Probably why they gave him the old heave ho when he worked for them.

You declare I've been too long in the sun and are then you are going to drive a car or truck across Bass Strait to Tasmania. I did read a story once about a bloke walked on water and there was a guy on Top Gear in a high horsepower, fat tired off road vehicle who drove it across a small lake but I would not try it in your Tesla.

Yeah, interesting isn't it, much of the freight in and out of Tassie since 1935 is by road transport and all those visiting caravans and RV's driving around here have mainland plates. I recall driving from the UK to Europe long time before they put the tunnel in. More info here https://www.australiaforeveryone.com...trait-ferries/

And lets say you are working 28/28 and flew home to Tassy and did your 14 days quarantine then immediately flew back to WA and did the 14 days there before doing your 28 on site. I'd just get another job.

Ya winding me up aren't you! There is no quarantine requirements between TAS and WA, hasn't been for yonks. Fill in your G2G pass online, takes about 5 minutes to get approved and it's chocks away. The G2G pass works both ways.

Haven't seen a word from the Tassy premier on anything, I guess it's not news to the rest of the country.

You need to have a big BLM march or get some greenies to glue themselves to the bridge or something to get the mainland city based journos to take some notice of the place.

Nah, we like it nice and quiet

We have got to the bickering-about-inconsequentials stage so I'm going to try to bale (acceptable in true English speaking places)

However, I do have a suspicion that when the madness finally subsides and we go on to the next all consuming crisis we'll look back and think why the hell didn't we save ourselves a lot of coin and aggravation and emulate the Swedes.

Re: The Reality of Living in Australia and Covid

Today, had an e-mail from old friends who live in and cruise in New Caledonia. They are out of freshies, and a strict lockdown is being declared from noon today. Two cases are in Noumea, which is where they would be locked down, if they go back.

There is more about it here:https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ml#post3477426

New Cal was one of our favourite places to cruise, so much nice flat water sailing, French pastries and wine and cheese.

Our friend thinks it will stay closed through at least January, and at that time, they will require that you document your vaccination for them, or they'll vaccinate you at the airport, so clearly not focused on visiting yachties, yet.

When the science is different, depending on what country is promoting it, you kind of have to at least, suspect that.

Politics involved in Australia's vaccine strollout? Never!!

Dan '“Some don’t like to see this as a race, but a race it surely is. What I didn’t know was that Premier Berejiklian is in a sprint, while the rest of us are supposed to do some sort of egg and spoon thing.”

“I signed up to a national plan to vaccinate the country, not a plan to vaccinate Sydney.”

Mr Andrews urged federal Health Minister Greg Hunt to explain what he described as a “secret” and “under the table” arrangement.'

Ann, do you know if they’ve been able to get vaccinated yet?

Growth of the daily case rate continues on a two-week doubling rate:

So you're at 60 now on 30 two weeks ago.

As would be expected the death rate continues to climb:

This indicator usually lags daily case rates by two weeks.

Considering the vulnerable nature of the population, and especially if Seaworthy Lass is right and vulnerable haven't been prioritized in vaccination, then we might see this grow up higher than what we are having in the less vulnerable and better vaccinated Nordic populations. Based on my experience watching these curves for a year and a half, I would expect to see this go from 0.26 to 1 or 2 before this wave is over.

One thing that is skewing the data presented in the above graphs for case numbers and deaths is that 89% of cases are in NSW (7 day average 1330) with a population of 8.2 million.

That brings cases in NSW to 162 per million, still not very high, but expected to rise even though there has been a slight levelling just recently.

Attached are graphs for cases in Australia since the start of the pandemic, plus in NSW and Victoria since June/July 2021.
