Did you watch Casey Briggs on the ABC yesterday? (I really like his work.)
Tassie are the only state providing a detailed breakdown of hospital admissions, differentiating between those that are admitted BECAUSE of Covid, vs those that are admitted but happen to also have Covid.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-07-...-data/13974946
I’m still thinking through what it all means.

Watch??? You know us well enough to know we don't watch TV, Casey B or not.
But we're trying to go back to earlier practices re crowds, etc. don't like the trends that we are seeing here in Tas.

Sorry, I forgot your commendable aversion to the moving image.
Never sure if streamed news counts though.

Re: The Reality of Living in Australia and Covid
Just came back from a quick trip ashore pre crowds
We were masked up, keeping our distance and wiping down trolleys like we always do and had one old guy waiting in line at the post office start bangin' on about how we need to close the borders, stop travel, everyone should be wearing masks...............everyone but him it would seem.
No mask on and there getting passport photos.

We just need everyone to get their boosters so we can end this thing.

As long as somebody gets a booster, it will never end.

Sigh. The data shows repeatedly that people in hospital are primarily from the non vaccinated. This data was again shown to be the case here in Ireland where a rise in Covid referrals to hospitals has occurred recently.
Those with boosters may be contacting it but the evidence is they have very mild symptoms , I know far more people with covid recently then at the height of the pandemic. The key is that all these recent people are vaccinated and had very mild symptoms.
Boosters have kept people from getting really sick.
Get you boosters if offered.

Re: The Reality of Living in Australia and Covid
We are up to 4th booster now and should soon be approved for regular boosters at 9 or 12 month intervals. That will continue to stop all serious illness according to the CMO. Babies over 6 months also approved so no more kid deaths either. We live in marvellous medical times that they can do such amazing work. Australia, 96% vaccinated and almost no more hospitalisations or deaths compared to pre-vaccination.

Re: The Reality of Living in Australia and Covid
Damn, I can't believe this thread is still going and you are all still jumping up and down like paranoid little chickens, even after you have had your fourth jab in less than a year.
Its time to move on people and let the whole covid drama go into the past where it belongs - Fear is not a useful emotion - There really is nothing to fear, apart from the media BS. Due to underlying respiratory issues I am in a high risk group and have not had the vaccine and have had covid twice (different strains I presume) and it really is nothing to be afraid of - I have had worse colds and certainly it bears no comparison to some of the bad flu's I have had over my life.

In case you hadn't noticed, hospitals in Oz are struggling. Health staff are burning out. Surgery waiting lists are blowing out.
Really happy to hear of your superior ironman status. Good luck for you. But others are not so fortunate. And you, despite your superior constitution, might actually NEED to.go to hospital one of these days for something else. Then, when you are faced with no beds, exhausted staff and long waits for attention, you may be just a shade less arrogant.

Interesting segment on one of our TV channels re how much has been spent in "covid isolation camps" and the number of people who have actually been isolated there (Put them into your government white elephants list along with desalination plants)
At the onset of the pandemic we heard numerous promises regarding the expansion of hospital services and facilities by state governments (state governments largely control the hospital system in Australia)
We are now "faced with no beds, exhausted staff and long waits for attention" in said hospitals.
Is there a rodent smell about this?

Governments of all persuasions just move too slowly for this sort of thing. I can’t see them changing either.
There will always be a rodent smell, and sadly, it will be the smell of a long expired and unattended rodent.

Re: The Reality of Living in Australia and Covid
Moderator Note:
There are only a very few Covid threads still open of CF and we are trying very hard to keep this one open however recent posts are making it difficult. If it gets too hard, the gate will shut. Please don't be the guy pining the gate closed.
Before posting, please read the Covid stickie https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ly-262266.html
In particular, note - This section of the forum is not intended for debate about Covid, related legislation or governance but rather as an information exchange as outlined above.
Several posts have been deleted recently but it gets tiring - the easy option is to close the thread. The only way to keep the thread open is not to push back, double down or try our patience (we don't have much of that anymore).
