Yippeeee

This opens up all sort of opportunities for us next summer. Denmark (and the Faroes), Norway & Sweden were closed to us this year.

Many thanks for the reports. I have not checked the Baltic websites lately, as the season is over, so the information is very useful.

Re: Northern Europe during Pandemic -- Summers 2020 & 2021

There are few things to know about Norwegien border controls, the personel changes peridiocally and are given one onesided paper copy of the regulations. The "forskrift" of covid restrictions is ten pages long so they basicly have no clue what they are supposed to know. After a week they are better informed, done that myself several times showing them what else is written in the regulations. So for a random traveller it can be a bit of a coin toss to enter Norway.. Just saying..

Dunno which case you are referring to but the one that got lots of press coverage in Oz had a string of offences at the time. Fake documents, forged rental agreements, misleading police when questioned and a good supply of unscripted Viagra (he was 22) - travelling across several borders illegally all to watch a game of footy - yeah so not too much sympathy ...

But maybe he was lucky, pre-covid some (hundreds) ran the border by boat and end up locked on a remote island without access to legal services for years.

So there's more than one case of people going to jail for violating internal travel restrictions? Wow.

AFAIK, there is only one but you mentioned two.

The one mentioned by me is only in jail because he didn't pay the fine. Prior to the hearing, he wasn't allowed bail for obvious reasons and after the judgement, he didn't pay the fine so he stayed in the slammer. Nothing surprising here.

They locked up three in total. Lucky it was WA and not SA - probably would have also copped a damn good flogging there - them being demon supporters and all.

I think Qland has also locked up a few.

PS I'm not sure what is so 'horrible' about it.
No point having laws if you don't enforce them.

Trying to find the case.

Here's a woman jailed for half a year (!) for breaking quarantine:

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-53903498

No aggravating circumstances I can see.

Jail for someone who sneaked out of quarantine to visit his lover:

https://7news.com.au/lifestyle/healt...rules-c-977452

A man sent to jail for inviting tradespeople into his home while he was supposed to be self-isolating:

https://www.theguardian.com/australi...rantine-orders

There are so many of them.

This is the case I was thinking of:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-10-...erms/100532080

10 month jail terms.

For us in this part of the world, this is simply inconceivable -- like something from a dystopian movie. But why stop at 10 month jail terms? Maybe just shoot on the spot? What the hell is going on in Oz? This looks like serious fear & loathing.

I was going to say that there have never even been any fines, much less jail time for violating pandemic restrictions here. I've certainly never heard of anything like that. But Google does reveal that at least one guy was fined €150 euros for breaking self-isolation: https://yle.fi/uutiset/osasto/news/f..._test/12152163

And that first criminal charges (resulting in fines) ever filed in connection with restrictions, happened just this month.

Here you go
https://www.smh.com.au/national/melb...13-p58zm8.html
They nabbed the third one later.

Which would you prefer - a few people being made examples of or a Covid outbreak leading to savage, brutal and draconian lockdown which in turn would see a large slab of the population being mentally damaged for life, rampant alcoholism, failed businesses, wrecked careers?

Did you know there are no sparrows in Western Australia?

I think McGowan has painted himself into a corner.

Neither. I would prefer sanity, reason, moderation, tolerance, kindness. Not this madness.

Convicted of breaching covid regulations and fraud. 10 months with 7 months suspended. They knew what the were doing and I don't feel sorry for them.

Add 'world peace' to that mix and you are in with a chance at the next 'Miss World' pageant.

And also
I suppose you reckon this dropkick should have been given a slap on the wrist and sent home to his mum.
https://www.bordermail.com.au/story/...ZhbHNlfQ%3D%3D
I've been living here in my big white fella mansion with just the staff and my dogs these last 20 months with not a care in the world .
And now dills like this have turned Albury into a NSW hotspot.
You know what this means ? I now have to drive an extra 10k down to Dans in Wang each week to buy my Carmenere.
Life is tough in the bush.
How did all this end up in the Euro thread?
Grass fed Wombat loin chops for dins tonight. Yummo.

Won’t Dans deliver to you? Or at least click and collect - it’s weird but it looks like their online prices are much better than their in-store prices. We even got a delivery to Hamilton Island, though we had to pay an extra $21.50 for that and it took 10 (!) days. We’re working our way through their red wines from the low end first - a $2.65/bottle of SA Shiraz was OK, while a couple at $3.05 were not so good. We had a $4.85 Cab/Sav last night that was truly good.

And BWS in Airlie Beach had a good sale on 3l casks at $18. I expect by the time the same wine makes it’s way to Europe by container inside a plastic bag then bottled over there the per bottle price will be about the same (see, brought it back to Europe!!).
