Mexico situation

Hi all, right or wrong we are heading from Panama to Mexico tommorow.

I have more options currently if I'm in Mexico than I have here.

Currently from what I know the ports aren't closed to us, we have spoken to the marina in Chiapas and they are fairly confident regarding us coming.

Is there anyone up there that has a good grasp of the situation that can give input on current situation? Any information is appreciated.

Cheers Dale
Sukha.

Re: Mexico situation

I know one cruising couple and several conventional travellers who have cleared into Mexico within the past week. However, things are changing very fast.

The cruisers who cleared in said they had no medical questions/exam.

Directly contacting officials, as you have done, is I think the best bet for reliable current info.

Cant fathom why MX hasnt closed their borders...its like a big welcome sign for CV cases.

Re: Mexico situation

things are changing by the minute. even residents cannot keep up. huatulco apparently is open, san blas shut, mazatlan still open., barra de navidad still open... any farther north will take longer than to close ports down. find best place for you that is open and stay there. air travel is iffy at best and only repatriation flights have been leaving to canada... unsure of flights to usa..(but i would not get on a petri dish with wings for all money in the world).

Re: Mexico situation

best of luck. i am in mazatlan...waiting and watching........and breathing in and out nicely enough for now....take care and find a good place. remember hurricanes.... barra is a good place for those as is huatulco, where they donot dare go, except as tropical storms. ixtapa is pricey but safe, and is a cane hole, as is barra.
forgotto say if you like fonatur, callem in advance as some are full and some , as san blas are shut

Re: Mexico situation

At this stage I'm thinking of hunkering down in Chiapas. I've taken note of your hurricane hole suggestions in the past and may end up in one of those places.

Not even sure I'm doing the right thing , only time will tell. I don't want to be down here during the wet season

If you get into Mexico which you probably will it's a much nicer place to be in the wet season than Panama

Re: Mexico situation

We are on the other side of Mexico in Puerto Aventuras on the Yuacatan Peninsula. We got in a week ago after we cancelled the plan to go through the Panama Canal. As far as I know they still let people in here. As others have said, things are changing fast, though. Just today, they are shutting down alcohol sales in this state...

To my knowledge, they also shut down all non-essential work in Mexico.
